Walter's Story
I was a member of the class of 1967. I was one of those students that lived in the city of Atlanta and had to ride the then Atlanta Trans. System to school every day. My last home room was Mr. Spears in the old bulding. Bobby Hurd, Linda Bonds and I would ride to school together. I knew all the students from Ben Hill, where I attended elem. school. All the kids on my Atlanta street attented Washington high school. After high school I served in the US Army (active) for 2 years and the 29 years in the Army Reserves (most of that time in East Point). I retired from the Army Reserves in 1999. , I joined the Atlanta Police Department serving as a Police Officer until 1972 when I was promoted to Detective. In 1975, I tranferred to the new Fulton County Police Department. I was one of the first black police officer and the first black black sergeant with that Police Department. In 1987, I left Fulton County to except a job with the US Postal Service In 1990, I completed the US Postal Inspection Service Police Academy in Washington, DC. I served as a Postal Police Captain, in charge of the Postal Police for the Southeast Area. I retired from the Postal Service on July 31, 2009. I now live in Fayetteville, Georgia.
